S-1 forecasts 2021 security industry trend
CLASSIFICATIONNews Upload Date2021.01.15 Views496

The trends of the security industry are changing after the outbreak of COVID-19. As non-face-to-face services increased, untact security solutions, centered around smart CCTVs, are popular, and in the New Normal age, interest in new types of security technologies increased.

S-1 (CEO Noh Hee-chan), a total security solution provider, paid attention to the social phenomena that appeared after the outbreak of the pandemic, e.g. ▲ development of the artificial intelligence (AI) technology, ▲ increase of unmanned stores, ▲ routinization of remote work and ▲ universalization of surveillance.

According to these social changes, S-1 forecast ▲ popularization of smart security solutions loaded with AI technology, ▲ increase of unmanned solutions using biometrics,▲ expansion of the information security market using the ICT technology, and ▲ implementation of the integrated control center using big data as the 2021 trends of the security industry.

■ New trends after the outbreak of COVID-19

Development of the AI technology → popularization of smart security solutions

One of the technologies that was highlighted again after the outbreak of the pandemic is AI. Smart CCTVs based on the AI technology play a big role in tracing the movements of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and managing patients in hospital rooms. The government also emphasized the importance of AI in the ‘Digital New Deal,’ which was announced for economic recovery after COVID-19.

As security technologies based on AI are actively used to overcome the pandemic, related markets expanded. This year various smart security solutions loaded with the AI technology are expected to be released.

Unmanned store service → increase of unmanned solutions based on biometrics

There was a change in consumption trends change as well. In the past employees served customers in person and encouraged them to visit the store again, but as non-face-to-face services became a social virtue after the outbreak of COVID-19, the number of unmanned stores where there is no employee increased.

Last year more than 100,000 unmanned kiosks were installed in Korea. They increased by 61.5% over 2019. As a result, the security industry is also paying attention to unmanned store solutions.

Routinization of remote work → expansion of the information security market using ICT technology

As enterprises greatly increased remote work last year, anxiety over cyber threats increased too. As the possibility of the system being paralyzed by ransomware attacks increased, and the likelihood of the important information of enterprises being divulged also increased, the importance of information security and IT solutions also increased. As a matter of fact, according to the survey on 'remote work security conducted by Korea Internet Security Agency (KISA), 72.1% of respondents worked from home, and more than half of them experience cyber threats during telecommuting.

To prevent increasing cyber threats, the security industry is expected to expand the information security business area to the convergence security business, e.g. creating synergies with the convergence security business which combines physical security and information security.

Universalization of surveillance→ implementation of the integrated control center using big data

After the outbreak of COVID-19, the importance of the integrated control system for surveillance increased as well. Korea could conduct epidemiological investigation of confirmed cases more thoroughly than other countries because of the integrated control centers that local governments installed around the country. It was possible to correctly find the movements of confirmed cases by organically linking the integrated control centers. Recently integrated control centers began to be introduced to multi-family housing like apartments one after another. Some apartments extensively promoted the implementation of integrated control centers for the sake of sales. It is believed that anxiety over infection led to interest in the high-tech security system.

■ High-tech security solutions that will lead the trends

As interest in new security technologies rapidly increased after the outbreak of the pandemic, S-1, industry leader, said it would introduce an 'integrated security platform, which covers state-of-the-art technologies like AI, biometrics, ICT, and big data. Its strategy is to solidify its status as the dominant industry leader through this platform.

To this end, S-1 is accelerating implementation of the 'integrated security platform' such as integrating the R&D organization of technology innovation with the business division and integrating the physical security business with the building management business.

S-1 is planning to launch the 'smart building management solution' based on the AI and big data technology as the starting point of the integrated security platform. The smart building management solution is a solution that combined the monitoring know-how of dispatch infrastructure of security service with the building management business. In the past, the resident manpower in buildings took charge of equipment control, energy management, etc., but this solution installs IoT sensors without any resident manpower, and collect and monitor big data on equipment conditions. It remotely detects signs of anomalies and provides dispatch service.

The biometrics technology of the integrated security platform is applied to the unmanned store solution. S-1 is also planning to expand the application scope of the face recognition system for non-face-to-face access management of unmanned stores. As S-1's face recognition technology is 99.9% accurate (KISA certification), it is expected to greatly contribute to enhancing security. S-1 will launch the 'customized unmanned solution package with focus on sectors in which unmanned services are prominent, e.g. study cafes, laundries and karaokes.

Meanwhile, S-1 is planning to introduce the fever detection solution, which provides the access management and temperature monitoring function at the same time by combining the biometrics and AI technology, in the first half of this year.

S-1ESP, an information security product, takes charge of the ICT service of the integrated security platform. In response to increasing telecommuting, S-1ESP is a solution that prevents complex information security issues, e.g. ransomware, virus infection and divulgence of personal information. Recently, S-1 is planning to actively penetrate the information security market by releasing videoconferencing solutions and file centralization solutions in the market one after another.

“The technologies that conform to the new living conditions and life patterns after the pandemic are the new values of security products,” said Mr. Noh Hee-chan. “This year we will become solidify our leadership position by using our outstanding technologies, e.g. AI, biometrics, ICT, and big data, to lead the trends of the security industry.”
